Hi,
   Yes, it is possible to get a faster "speed" by setting the modem to
115,200.  Modems use compression to transmit data.  If you set the rate the
computer and the modem talk to each other to the same as the two modems
talk, you will get "bursts" as the modems have to stop talking from time to
time to allow the computer to catch up.  Now, if you set the speed between
the computer and modem to faster than the speed of the two modems, the data
(which is coming in faster than the rated speed because it is compressed)
will have a better chance of keeping up. (example:  If we assume a 50%
reduction in the size due to compression, for every two bits the modems
transmit to each other, the modem must transmit three bits to the computer,
hence the need to set the computer-modem speed higher than the modem-modem
speed).
