<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Today the Mayor of Los Angeles, Calif. made the following proclamation: Whereas, the Celiac Disease Foundation will hold its Annual Celiac Disease Awareness Day at Children's Hospital, Los Angeles on July 12, 1998 and, Whereas, Celiac Disease is a chronic digestive disorder where extreme damage to the small intestine is caused by a toxic reaction to the ingestion of gluten, the common protein found in wheat, rye, barley and other grains, and Whereas, Celiac Disease is often undiagnosed despite the fact that as many as one in every 250 people in the United States may be affected, and Whereas, the nationally acclaimed Celiac Disease Foundation, headquartered in the City of Los Angeles, is dedicated to providing services and support to people with Celiac Disease through programs of awareness, education, advocacy and research Now, therefore I, Richard J. Reardon, Mayor of the City of Los Angeles, on behalf of its residents, do hereby proclaim July 12, 1998 as "CELIAC AWARENESS DAY" in the City of Los Angeles and commend the Celiac Disease Foundation for its extraordinary efforts on behalf of the people with Celiac Disease and All Angelenos.
