I think your problem is due to the fact that the modem is reporting the
computer-to-modem speed (DTR speed) rather than the modem-to-modem
(connect) speed. Some modems will return a string like "CONNECT 115200"
instead of the more usual CONNECT 53333/ARQ or whatever.

There should be an AT command to force the modem to report the connect
rather than the DTR speed to the software.  You'll have to add it to the
custom initialization string under the modem control panel.
