Hi all, I've spent the last four days in Cologne and it was nice. Good work, friendly colleagues and even good weather. So I picked some messages from the digests of the list and hope the list digestion was generally good: ;-) :-) Liza: >Is there any attempt at a biochemical >explanation for why one food would detox another? Or Is it mostly based >on lots of personal stories? The biochemical attempt says, that e.g. artificial sugar is not 100% the same as natural sugar. So it can cheat our body a certain time and pretend it's the same but finally it gets trapped in a certain position where a natural sugar would trigger the next biochemical reaction while the artificial sugar fails to do so. At this point the body recog- nizes that it is unusable and stores it if immediate detox is im- possible. Later on if good sugar molecules enter the body they might be used to substitute the artificial ones and the bad molecules are excreted. A good example is gluten. One end of this molecule has the same shape as a natural endorphine of the human body. So it sticks to the endor- phine receptors in the brain and makes them react. But the other end of gluten is different from the endorphin, therefore the body doesn't know how to remove the molecule from the receptor. Since this all takes place in the brain the theory goes on and says that gluten makes you crazy. There is truth in this claim because lots of celiacs were cured by putting them on a gluten free diet. Personally I had one experience with gluten when I ate commercial eggs which come from chickens fed with wheat. It made me crazy for a short time, indeed! Search the archives for it. Ellie: >BTW, I believe I was wrong about those hut-shaped coconuts. The lady in >Chinatown said the hut-shaped exterior is natural. LOL! Does it mean, the hut-shape is natural? ROTFL! Of course it is n o t !!! The outer hull of the coconut is indeed natural, but the hut-shape certainly isn't. Has nobody ever seen a complete coco- nut? (Green outer hull, etc.) Ellie: >This makes sense to me, so why do people at Natural Hygiene and others >scream about genetic tampering. I can understand that it's based on a >lot of foolishness about thinking they can cure diseases through >genetic manipulation, but what's wrong with producing new kinds of >foods? I read one thing that convinced me that GEF is the worst thing humani- ty has invented to adulterate foods. GEF can lead to plants producing certain substances which are highly toxic to humans. The consequences may come very late, even after deca- des or only with the offspring of the first generation of GEF eaters. No test currently done can reveal such consequences. I found an article somewhere in the web saying, that a drug in the U.S. was changed from normal production to production by genetically altered bacteria. Lots of patients treated with the new drug died. M.D.s were able to find out the cause: an aminoacid contained in the genetically produced drug which was toxic for humans. Coming to an issue of my own finally: I once again ordered seaveggies from Orkos and got "Wakame" from Bali. And, surprise, it tasted palatable and I could eat it with pleasure!!! Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! So the body just decided to drop this blockage without an intervention of my own. No need for trying cooked seaveggies, no trick necessary. Great. Instinctively enjoying seaveggies, Stefan E-Mail: [log in to unmask] P.S.: Will be in Cologne the next three weaks and probably have no time to join the discussion here, not even on Fridays or weakends.
