I have been on a bizarre diet, trying to find out what I"m allergic to!
I have had severe asthma for 5 years, with some very life-threatening
trips to the ER and stays in the hospital. I was on Neocate (for those
who don't know, it's an elemental formula, powder that you mix with
water) for 3 weeks and did really great. MY peak flows improved
dramatically. My dr says this shows that part of my problem is probably
food allergies.

So I started adding foods slowly and had no problem with wheat flour,
cooked potatoes, rice, canola oil, eggs. Then I added milk and started
these funky rashes, and within about 3 days my asthma flared and I was
really sick. I went off the milk and it cleared up. So we figure I'm at
least somewhat allergic to milk.

Then, with the reading I"ve been doing on the subject I find that
there's lots of different milk proteins one can be allergic to, as well
as lactose. Mine doesn't appear to be lactose as my stomach isn't
involved in the reaction. Am I wrong about this?? Apparently you can be
allergic to the cassein, the whey, and other stuff, all of which
determines what you should and shouldn't eat from the dairy family. I'd
appreciate any help on this subject, how you all found out what it was
exactly that you were allergic to in the milk and how you changed your
diet accordingly.

Thanks a ton, Deb
