<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Since I have previously touted the wonders of Lact-Aid brand caplets and other products on this list, I felt that I needed to post this "update". I am no longer using the caplets since I have experienced stomach upsets when using the new formula (*not* the extra strength or the new "ultra"). I do not know (or care) whether it was a gluten reaction since I simply cannot tolerate the new formula (just what it "mannitol" anyway?) but am wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem. I have not had any problems with the Lact-Aid brand milk or the drops (glycerin and enzyme). I have found a GF brand of lactase enzyme which seem to work fine for me. It is the "Good Neighbor" brand, manufactured by Pharmavite. They are distributed by Bergen-Brunswig (my pharmacist looked up the manufacturer for me). I called 1-800-314-HERB (Pharmavite also manufactures Nature's Resource, among other brands) and got to a Mr. Anwar Najmi in the regulatory research department. He informed me that the Good Neighbor Natural Lactase Enzyme tablets are gluten free. There is nothing derived from gluten in the manufacturing process or in the growth of the enzyme. The ingredient list was short and sweet: dibasic calcium phosphate, lactase enzyme (3000 FCC units), cropsidivone (sp.? this is a binder from an inert and highly processed cellulose), and magnesium stearate (did you know this is made from beef tallow?). I am thrilled to be adding dairy products back into my diet. Sorry for the length of this -- hope it is of some use. Jane (in VA, USA) [log in to unmask]
