I couldn't agree more with your comments about people and medical alert
bracelets.  They speak for you when you can't.
 
My six-year-old has celiac's as well as an anaphylatic reaction to
peanuts.  It is a visual thing that like you said "makes people think
twice".  And in my son's case he could die.
 
I also believe that should my son or anyother celiac ever be in a
position where he or so could not speak and wind up in the hospital that
it would give a clear message as to what he or she could have as a diet.
