<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> I received 5 responses to my query re: improved eyesight (including almost complete elimination of astigmatism in one eye.) Two people had personal experience of improved vision: One person had been having double vision, floaters, dimming eyesight, sharp eye pains, eye tics and reduced vision. Within two weeks of being GF the problems disappeared. In fact, the post says "the specialist two months later was livid with ""the incompetence of the optometrist and his diagnosis"" asthere was no problem whatsoever. My eyesight had actually improved from the original prescription." Another said his eyesight fluctuated for about 6 months after beginning the GF diet. Then it started to improve. His optometrist said this was common in MS. He too had astigmatisms (both eyes) and they totally went away. His vision still fluctuates somewhat. A third person responded for his wife (who has celiac) who had a similar experience. She had cysts in the mouth area near her eyes that were removed after which her vision improved. The responder suggested a GF diet may have reduced swelling near the eye resulting in improved vision. Another person suggested that a GF diet is causing the body to work better together as a whole organism - eyes needing the proper nutrition as all other parts of the body - and focusing nutritional meals may heal the eyes even more. The final responder had heard of treatment for Type II Diabetes affecting vision in this way. "Once blood sugar is normalized, the optical properties of the eyeball seem to change." I asked my optometrist about the MS connection and he agreed that fluctuations in vision could occur with this disease. He said my change was *not* similar to what he has seen associated with MS. Thanks to those of you who wrote to me about your experiences. Linda Vogue Canby, OR
