<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> I am celiac and spent quite some effort convincing my 2 brothers to get tested for celiac disease. (I recognised some sypmtoms that I had in both) The results were negative for both of them despite contradictory telephone discussions before everything was put in writing. I would like to quote from the letter sent regarding one of my brothers and get the list's opinion on the thoroughness of the testing. I refer specifically to blood tests. Was the testing complete ? Anything missing ? I really would appreciate your opinions .. "routine bloods showed Haemoglobin 14.1 g with normal MCV, platelet and white cell count. Biochemical profile normal. Serum iron 34 umols with an iron binding capacity of 46. Gliadin antibodies negative. HLA antigens : A2, A29, B7, B44." The other brother had the same HLA string but a comment was added "He does not have the HLA A1, B8 combination usually found in Irish celiacs". What is the significance of the HLA comment? (We are Irish by the way). Unfortunately, I do not have my own test results to compare with - but have requested them. I would welcome all comments, to my userid. Best Regards .. Margaret in Hong Kong
