Please remember that this is only my experience and it seems that the
recovery time can vary greatly. I am 35 and was diagnosed /started
gluten free on November 1, 1995. At that time I had dropped to 137
lbs. (I'm 6' tall) The diarrhea had stopped after about 3 weeks and
as of February 1 I was up to 165 lbs.

Not to be crude but one of the problems with some celiacs is that there
are so many (I think) fatty deposits in the stools that they float and
are a very light color. (This was my case anyway.) I noticed about a
month ago that the stools were darker and no longer "floating".

I have also noticed that now if I do consume gluten now I feel the
reaction severely. As an example a month ago I got a sinus infection
and the Dr. prescribed Cipro and a decongestant. I started having
clasic symptoms again. After stopping all medication the symptoms went
away. I called the manufacturer and the decongestant used wheat starch
as the binder. Cipro is Gluten Free acording to BAYER as of January
    1996.

Hope this helps, I feel better now than I have in the last 10 years.
