Lactose intolerance is frequently a secondary intolerance to gluten intolerance. The lactose intolerance appears as the lactase enzyme needs the intestine's microvilli to hang on to (or they come from the microvilli). This becomes evident when the diagnosed celiac goes through recovery and the villi, then the microvilli, grow back. When you were trying lactase alone, your symptoms were gluten intolerance symptoms. After going gluten-free you were getting lactose intolerance symptoms. You now have both under control. If you can maintain a 100% GF diet you can expect the lactose intolerance to go away in a year or two. [log in to unmask]
