Mark, I believe the only thing the battery in the MC-60 is needed for is powering the Pre-amp, not the element. In most cases you should be able to use the mic without the pre-amp. Indeed, it is probably preferable to do just that as using it will introduce more distortion and increase the possibility of RF getting into the audio. 73.
