I don't know how many other US States have done this, but Oklahoma plates are now totally featureless. They used to have the tag number and the motto or slogan stamped right in to the metal as well as painted on with reflective paint which you still can't see through mud or snow, but you could sure feel the numbers on a moderately clean license plate. Some years ago, police agencies in Oklahoma complained that the condition of the license tags was getting so bad that many were hard to read so the state bought new tags for everybody. These have a flat finish and everything is printed but there is nothing to feel any more. When our new tag came, my XYL had to hand it to me and say, "It goes this way." Every year, we get a new registration sticker that goes in a specific place and that's the only thing that's different about the whole plate.
