Accountability and Transparency: Sierra Leone Government will Post mining Revenues online for all to see.
Amidst distractions, innuendos and a well coordinated massive
propaganda campaign machinery put together by Sierra Leone’s opposition
party SLPP, Sierra Leone is poised for positive change and
development. While the opposition is now teaming up with international
foreign newspapers (Africa Confidential) and major news broadcasting
television stations (Al Jazeera), under the transformational leadership
of president Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma Sierra Leone will soon become one
of the most accountable, transparent and developed nations in
sub-Saharan Africa. Such a purpose-driven focus in improving the poor
West African nation will obviously make it difficult for the opposition
SLPP to “bounce back” at 12, O’clock Sharp” any day after the November
2012 Elections.
In an article , titled “Sierra Leone to post mining revenues online”
published by Reuters, Simon Akam wrote, “Sierra Leone will soon launch a
public web site to detail mining revenues, in an effort that will help
ensure that an expected resource bonanza is handled transparently,
officials said. The West African state is poised to grow at a
staggering 51.4 percent in 2012, according to an IMF projection, as two
large-scale iron ore mines come into production.”
The paper also reported that Jonathan Sharkah, Director of Mines in
Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Mineral Resources as saying, “”By the end
of 2012 you are going to find every cent that is paid to the government
on this web site,” At a time when opposition operatives, Africa
Confidential, Sorious Samura and Aljazeera Broadcasting Cooperation have
teamed up on the propaganda war against the ruling government such news
could not have come at a better time.
In the government’s continued efforts to improve on accountability
and transparency for the 2012 Elections, 800 biometric machines
costing over 18 Million USD were recenly purchased with the help of the
United Nations. The machines would help the National Electoral
Commission secure the finger prints and facial images of voters. The
data would ensure that only registered voters can vote, vote only
once, and underage voting is prevented or drastically reduced. The New
Biometric machines will replace the manual voting process that makes
the voting process prone to election rigging and therefor political
violence. The leading opposition party, SLPP were offered such help
when they where in office but they refuse to implement such changes in
Sierra Leone’s electioneering process.
With the Action, Progress and Commitment of the Sierra Leone Government, Accountability and Transparency will thrive, amidst detractors.
