Very funny cousin Fakoo Fakoo. If I were the people of Sukuta, I will demand construction on these projects be completed by election day. We're voting on performance afterall, and not empty promises. Yahya had 16 years for these projects and potable water for all Sukuta. He admitted Sukuta has been loyal to him since 1994.

will be constructed soon

So in 2012, we will upgrade the Sukuta health centre into a major health centre that will have a theatre so that it can allow operations.” President Jammeh recalled that the last time he held a meeting in the said village, he had promised them a senior secondary school, but observed that lack of space in the village hindered that effort.

If Sukuta votes for me in the elections, I will build a 4BR/2Bath home for every family in Sukuta. I will build roads, schools, and a first class hospital between Brufut and Sukuta for the two communities. I will transfer the Bijilo Forest Project to the same area so the people of SUkuta and Brufut can benefit from the dibalopment.

Haruna. Vote Haruna for President of Gambia.

Inline with the objective of bringing development to the footsteps of Gambians for improved livelihood, officials of the Gambia government Thursday evening unveiled development packages, among them multi-million dalasi road projects, in Sukuta in Kombo North, West Coast Region.

The development projects earmarked for Sukuta and environs include the 3.7 km Sukuta-Latrikunda road, and the 3km Bundung Borehole-Sukuta Nema road, which, according to the minister of Works, Construction and Infrastructure, will be constructed soon at the tune of D33 million and D23 million respectively. Other development projects unveiled at the same meeting include the upgrading of the Sukuta Minor Health Centre into a major health centre, as well as the establishment of a major senior secondary school that can cater for at least 5,000 students.

Plans for these projects were disclosed by President Jammeh himself and the minister of Works, Construction, and Infrastructure, Dr Njogu Bah during the ‘Dialogue with the people’s tour’ meeting held at the said village. The disclosure came after the locals who spoke at the meeting raised concern over the lack of such infrastructure, while at the same time commending President Jammeh for the Sukuta-Westfield road project, which has given Sukuta and the environs a massive facelift. Addressing thousands of locals including party militants, the Gambian leader told the gathering that he was not shaken by their requests, as his government has already secured funds for the road projects. He also commended staff of Sukuta Health Centre for their high sense of dedication and commitment to work.

He said: “The Sukuta Health Centre is not only the best of its kind in the country but in West Africa. That being the case, it indicates that the staff working there are patriotic citizens. So in 2012, we will upgrade the Sukuta health centre into a major health centre that will have a theatre so that it can allow operations.” President Jammeh recalled that the last time he held a meeting in the said village, he had promised them a senior secondary school, but observed that lack of space in the village hindered that effort.

He added: “This is because now, if you build a senior secondary school for only 100 students, every day enrolment increases. So, this is why we want to establish a major senior secondary school that can cater for 5000 students. I think if you look at Kombo North, the only two senior secondary schools are far from Sukuta and the satellite villages. So we will establish a major senior secondary school here to address the problem.” President Jammeh also disclosed plans to strengthen electricity supply in Sukuta, while promising that what is left undisclosed in terms of development will be seen by the people themselves.

Gratitude to Sukuta
The Gambian leader seized the opportunity to commend the people of Sukuta for their longstanding support and allegiance to his government since the dawn of the 1994 Revolution when the Armed Forces Provision Ruling Council was constituted. He recalled that Sukuta was one of the first towns that made him their citizen. He further recalled that Sukuta was the first town that invited AFPRC to have a meeting there at a time when many people turned their back against the young regime.

“I Yahya Jammeh will never forget that the world is three days. Better as today may be, I don’t forget about yesterday when things were very hard and tough and yet you invited me for a meeting. The time that you invited me, those people were saying that our regime would not last three months. So if you people of Sukuta requested something from me and I refuse, then I am not grateful. Those in the opposition in the area will not deter me from doing what I want for Sukuta and Kombo North,” he stated.

Task for the youths
President Jammeh challenged the youths of Sukuta and environs to take charge of national development and make use of opportunities created by his government. He expressed sadness that economic activities in the country are dominated by foreigners, urging the youths to change their mindset and work to earn a decent living and avoid a situation whereby they will become foreigners in their own country. He said that his government has done all what is required for the empowerment and development of youths, and that the onus now lies on the youths to decide whether or not to utilise such opportunities.

Speaking earlier, the minister of Works, Construction and Infrastructure, Dr Njogu Bah who disclosed the aforesaid multi-million dalasis road projects, further disclosed that plans are in the pipeline to construct the Brufut-Madiana road by 2012. “What we can tell you is that your roads from here to Yuna, Coastal Road to Jambanjally, Bijilo-Sukuta; these roads will be taken care of and God willing next time if we come here, you will not talk about them,” he promised. The Works minister pointed out that the developments registered during the 17 years of President Jammeh’s leadership is far more than that of the 430 years rule of the British and the First Republic. He stressed that if the predecessors of President Jammeh had done all these developments that he is doing now, investments in these projects would have been taken to other sectors, thus ensuring a developed country.

Close ranks
Meanwhile, Dr Njogu Bah also observed the problems existing among party militants themselves, challenging them to cleanse their heart, open to others so as to forge ahead. He told party militants that loving each other and being each other’s keeper will pay great dividend. The minister of Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters, Lamin Kaba Bajo, stressed the need for the APRC militants to close ranks and nurture unity, saying that the party leader, President Jammeh doesn’t know who is who as far as the party and the country is concerned.

Minister Bajo also joined President Jammeh in challenging the youths to take responsibilities in national development. He acknowledged that the youths have been very supportive of President Jammeh since 1994, but stressed the need for them to emulate him by working hard and to nurture change of attitude. While urging the parents and elders to take their responsibilities seriously by investing in the future of their children, Minister Bajo raised eyebrows on the rampant menace of rape in the area. He stressed the need for elders to inculcate good moral virtues and discipline in their children, as well as protect them from material inducement, notably by old white tourists.

Locals’ account
Speaker after speaker in Sukuta thanked President Jammeh for the numerous developments in the area, especially the construction of a high quality and standard road network that links Sukuta to Westfield. Similarly, the militants all pledged to replicate Kombo North’s past political success for the ruling party in the forthcoming elections. Meanwhile, high on their request from government was the need to address the road network, especially those linking major communities with others that are off-road. They also stated the need for a senior secondary school.

Pa Jatta, youth mobiliser in the area, said that the opposition are not their problem, hinting that the APRC militants themselves are in conflict among themselves. He urged the militants to close ranks and stop stabbing each other’s back, while equally stressing the need for the ‘eye service syndrome’ to be discouraged in the party. Binta Kanyi, Abdoulie Bojang, Ebra Faal, Aja Arra Jatta, and Aja Kumba Barry all expressed similar sentiments. The deputy national mobilser (women) , Aja Ndey Jatta commented on the dynamic and visionary leadership of President Jammeh, while thanking him for appointing her to this high political office. The meeting was chaired by Hon. Borry Colley, NAM for Foni Jarrol and APRC desk officer for West Coast Region.
