Dear Friend,
One of the great things about our country is that no matter how powerful and
influential you are, you are not above the law.
No one knows that better today than Rupert Murdoch after the FBI launched an
investigation into claims that reporters at News Corp. tried to hack into the
phones of 9-11 victims' families.
If true, it's shameful, and the FBI has taken a good first step. But
it's not enough. We need a thorough probe from Congress and the
Justice Department to understand just how far the lies, illegal practices, and
damages go.
DON'T LET RUPERT MURDOCH ESCAPE THE TRUTH!
We saw the British spend 6 years waiting to hold Murdoch accountable for
these offenses. In those 6 years, there were 4,000 victims, including a terror
victim, politicians, celebrities, and a 13-year old teenager who was tragically
murdered. Why did it take so long? Because Murdoch is so powerful that people
were afraid to stand up to him.
Not here. In the last 48 hours, over 100,000 people have signed a petition
for thorough investigations and members of Congress from both sides of the
aisle have stepped forward in agreement. We can't stop now.
If you'll stand with Media Matters, America's premier media
monitoring organization, we won't let Rupert Murdoch escape the truth.
When the most powerful news organization in the world is rocked by a scandal
this serious, all of us have a deep personal stake in exposing the truth and
making sure those responsible pay the consequences for any wrongdoing.
You have my promise that Media Matters will stay on the case until
we get to the truth.
Sincerely,
Matt Butler
