The UDP, as you are aware, supports the PDOIS/Nadd candidate for Wulli East By-election.
The UDP, through its Youth Wing, encouraged its supporters in Wulli East to vote for the PDOIS/Nadd candidate.

The UDP campaigns for UDP candidates unless it is invited to campaign for any other party or candidate. Such invitations will be seriously considered by the UDP executive committee. When The UDP considers campaigning for any party, a minimum requirement will be that such party upholds democratic principles and promises to govern according to democratic precepts. Equal treatment under the constitution, freedom of expression to include speech and artistic expressions, freedom to wear your pants inside out and backwards, freedom to pursue happiness unfettered, equal access to government institutions, freedom of association for religion and industry (you have a right to fish rather than raise chickens etc.), freedom to shit or hold it in for a while, and so on as recognized by democracy charters all over the world.

The election  decree provides that it has to be held within 90 days after the seat became vacant. As long as that requirement is met, the discretion is entirely IEC's  and I don't think the opposition will have a leg to stand on in arguing against this unless they can show that IEC's discretion as exercised was somehow  fettered, which will be very difficult if not impossible to prove.

 

The point is; we cannot always expect things to fall our way. We have to be ready to accept challenges and be proactive in working out our ways around them.

These are some of the encumberances the opposition is certainly well aware of. Have been for decades. They ought to have no excuse for such miscellaneous matter at the 11th hour.

I expect that PDOIS/Nadd took care of this matter for the majority of their voters. Perhaps they had made prior arrangements for this and you're just not aware because they did not inform you. In the future, I encourage all absentee voters to reach out to their party of choice regarding such miscellaneous arrangements. I am sure folk who want to vote will sacrifice a day or two off from work to vote anywhere in Gambia.

Haruna. There is no job in this world that will keep me from voting considering what is at stake in Gambia for any election.

Why the IEC can`t organise this elections on weekends ,so that those who are working can have chance to vote. I discussed this with a friend and he told me that APRC are afraid, and its APRC that chooses dates for all the elections and not IEC. It seems that APRC knows that if this election are done on weekends , many peoples from the urban areas will have time to travel  and take part or vote for the opposition. Please let us try and advice our opposition parties to challeng the dates of the bye-elections in the future. I feel bad that ,we cannot take part in the election today because of our jobs.
