Just because your father called you son; don't think your so bright .
if my neighbors dog (bone crusher) uses my yard to leave his message
; im sure humans were pretty much in the same frame of mind for a million years plus
Yet I too lived in New Hampshire
and they were proud of the fact they used corn pones before the advent of sears Roebuck pages
so I take kind comfort that there was always improvments being made
; the privy was not always outside ; a turkish toilet confirms that ;also in 19th cent Greenwhich village  there were "dry " two story privies where the waste fell by gravity down a bricked up channel that was shoveled out like an ash bin .This systemis still in use today in North Africa
small rooms  in america existed before plumbing ; as they had chamber pots or thunderbuckets (as we called them in the mines )
Missing now but quite common were the chairs that had holes cut in them ; no one wanted them as antiques so they disappeared
For real antiquity on the subject  I toured a two story masonry  ruin  on Santorini  Greece  that had second story plumbing
Santorini  formerly known in ancient times as (Thera) ; the black sand island that blew up in an earthquake and destroyed the Mioan culture  that gave rise to Plato's   much ballyhooed  Atlantis
. This  second floor plumbing of this one dwelling with frescoes of children riding bulls and dolphins
had pipes that worked by   roof cistern (now missing )
; and what was unique was that the waste water from  the second floor;
ran down  using ceramic drains  into another below grade cistern outside (for the solids )
then the brown water ran into  open sewer made of cobble stone .down the middle of the street
(city storm sewer )
This was 1500 bc ; so Im not sure what the union thought or if they had delta faucets
but it beat having to wash your socks outside on a rock

Living here as I do ; there are many locals that remember when the first plumbing and the first electricity
came through (let alone telephone ) ;WPA created an ambitious program to fabricate and build for free
poured concrete two holers for every farm and residence ...man that was living
