It would be interesting to know where and when the use of chamberpots came in, in relation to outhouses and privies, which I have always assumed to be synonymous.  Chamberpots would seem to be the more urban and outhouses the more rural means of dealing with the issue of ... waste.  Except that somebody had to empty the chamberpot, ad where were they emptied?.
