Thanks so much for this topic.  It seems like there has been an epidemic of efflorescence in Philadelphia in recent years.  A nice new facade on my walk home is covered in it.  I'm watching the 2 new (1 month) brick elevations at the corner property at the top of my block daily....

 

Perhaps someone can verify or bust this "myth:"  efflorescence caused by the use of an acidic wash during clean-up.
