Eric,

These are steel awning and hopper windows, so probably rolled steel casement-type.  Not too large, not really in bad shape.  Some corrosion, maybe limited epoxy putty repairs.  A good paint contracting firm could do the work, maybe with a window sub to remove and re-install glazing (we are calling for the windows to be blast-cleaned).

Mary,

I am not sure if I can help with someone with an OR license but have a question or 2 to start:

Are these rolled steel casement windows, similar to Hopes Windows? Or are they bent heavy gauge sheet metal double hung windows similar to Campbell or Pommeroy?

How large are the windows?

What type(s) of conditions need to be repaired?

How badly deteriorated are they?

Thanks,

Eric Hammarberg

Subject: [BP] Steel window restoration contractor in Oregon

Pins,

My firm is working on a project in the Salem, Oregon area, and we need to find a contractor for restoring historic steel windows.  Does anyone know someone with an Oregon Contractors License who is willing to do restoration/rehab work on steel windows?  The client wants to replace the windows if we can’t find a qualified contractor—we definitely want to avoid that.

Thanks,

Mary
