Hmmm, I think the number 9 key is the fine step key? If you press 9 by itself, you can turn the multi-channel knob to set the finer steps. If you press the func key first then 9, you set the step size used by the multi-channel knob. So, I think what you want to do is press 9, rotate the multi-channel knob to the left, and press 9 again to save the change.
