Karim, you are in the exception, I think if the majority who can afford finally contribute, it would be reasonable to ask the fund trustees (GPU-USA) not to give all to one course but consider other deserving ones including circumstances like yours. It must be pointed, people who should know better tend to ignore financial appeals, I can draw reference to similar cases in the past when Dave was the collector.

Mind you, am Not Disrespecting anyone albeit my serious tone.

Njok Malik Jeng
I am currently an asylum seeker with no means of outstanding income more so contribution. It even take six weeks to access my NASS support. I don't understand the media practioners and human rights campaigners you are making as your reference point. It was LJ Darbo and Wassa Fatti that even give support to me this past week. I hope my decision will come soon to continue with my life.

Kejau, take it as a reminder, you initiated the UK drive and should therefore pay. For media practitioners and other human rights campaigners, particular those active online, they should just make a reality check and accept an oversight, but still cough up and contribute.

Well Kejau, it's good to have a big mouth sometimes. Your point is well taken. It was indeed your idea that Njok collects in the UK and we have benefitted immensely from that. Thanks for the feedback

Hi Baba and Njok,

I think what is embarrassing and baffling is Njok's impatience and utterances. Most of those contributions happened in less than a month and you, Baba wrote few days ago that you have enough for months to come. How many people contributed in the last few days for instance, even in the US? The end of month was just today! Now anyone who planned to contribute later may feel that others will see her contributions as just to feel good, to satisfy Njok and Baba or better still to brush the embarrassment away! I think this was a wrong move and feel obliged to comment, as much as I respect Njok and yourself for the wonderful work you doing for human rights and Chief Manneh's family... It was anyway my suggestion that Njok collects from UK and that may have somehow stimulated the contribution not only in UK but also in the USA, hence my big mouth again !

Kind Regards,

Kejau Touray

Am surprised that all the contributions I received so far towards this fund, is from Non-Media people. It is a shame that people who are practising or ex journalists, human rights and democracy campaigners living right here in Uk and very active on online fora; don't even see fit the need to chip in the odd tenner. "Ndimbal Nah Cha Feka Lohoi Borom" so they say God helps those who help themselves.

Thanks Njok. And thanks to the Manneh family and all who contributed to this worthy cause. I think the money should be transfered to our treasurer Joe Sambou. We have the Manneh family covered for at least one more month with the funds already sent and we will see when next to send them more. It seems we have them covered for at least three to four more months, if not for the rest of the year. Thanks to all who have helped the GPU-USA make this possible. May God repay your kindness.

Mr. Darboe,

You know the dollar's weak right now and so are U.S. pockets. But we'll catch up I assure you. Thanks for the generous contribution and for your vote of confidence in another matter. Thanks too to our anonymous contributors.

Baba, I agree with Kajau. Let Jeng collect from the UK (if that is acceptable by Jeng) and we can later discuss where the monies should be forwarded to (US or Gambia).

Fellow Gambians and Friends of The Gambia,

The GPU-USA is issuing another call for contributions to help support the family of disappeared journalist Chief Ebrima Manneh. Since we issued the first call over two weeks ago, we have only received a contribution of $50 from one individual. This is rather disheartening considering the outpouring of outrage and sympathy over Chief Manneh's disappearance in the hands of the Jammeh dictatorship. The GPU-USA has already sent the family $500, which is enough to keep them going for at least three months. See below for an update on those funds from GPU-Gambia Chairperson Ndey Tapha Sosseh. A small amount can go a long way in alleviating the suffering of this family. We are therefore renewing our call for contributrions, however small, to enable us to keep helping this family. No amount is too small - 5, 10, 20 dollars - whatever you can contribute. Please write out your checks to our able treasurer Joseph Sambou and mail to him at 8046 South Kimbark Avenue, Chicago, IL 60619. We wish to ask those who have already pledged to please mail in their checks. Thank you all.

Baba G. Jallow
Secretary General
GPU-USA

(Below is the text of the email from GPU-Gambia)

Baba,

I've received the money (D12,858)and have informed the rest of the gpu executive and advisors. We will be calling the Manneh family to make an appt for midweek.

As discussed yesterday, we have agreed to spend the money as follows

Condiments
4 bags Rice @ 850 = 3400
2 20 Ltr Drums Cooking Oil @ 750 = D1500
2 Bags Sugar D350 = D700
1 Bag Onions = D300
Total = D5900

Cash for Father = D1500
Cash for Mother = D1000
Grand Total = 8400

The remaining 4458 will be topped up to 5000 by me and given to them in two monthly installments of D2500.

We'll also make sure that it gets adequate coverage.

Ndey Tapha
