My coworker has a Dell computer at work which tells her that she needs drivers for the cd drive. It was rarely used, now doesn't work. We tried another drive (removed from equipment), different brand, same thing. P4 2.8 ghz cpu, WIN XP PRO, SP3 installed. Tried deleting the device, rebooting, can't find drivers.
Searched the web, found some files, but am I looking for firmware downloads or drivers? Or are they the same thing? Seems to be looking for .inf files, don't see .inf files in the downloads I've seen so far. MS drivers listed are dated 2000-03. Dell provided a driver disc with the pc when purchased, ran the utility 'repair' and still can't find drivers for the original (Samsung) drive. System identifies both drives properly. Didn't see any drivers on the Dell site.
Drives are: CD Samsung SW252S and trying to upgrade to cd/dvd NEC DV5800A.
What am I missing, or do I have two dead drives?
