I contacted the Hains Customer service. They stated the barley enzyme is
used in the processing of the rice and then removed. They test every batch
of rice milk to assure there is none detectable down to 20 ppm. The
formulation is the same they have been using for years. Up until this past
year they listed the barley enzyme on the label  as " this product may
contain .002% of barley exract" as they weren't testing the product at that
time. Now that they test all batches they are labeling it gluten free. Hope
that clarifes matters. Amy
