What’s for dinner?  Schluter.  Ralph, advice taken.  I am concerned that spending a lot of money on the Ardex or Schluter is not worth it.  Better to go with the DSP 520 and order carpet tile stock and replace when problems occur.  Thoughts?

Don't offer anybody anything that the manufacturer won't warranty. Don't warranty anything the manufacturer won't warranty, either.  Make the architect make the product selection, you check it carefully, and put any objections, reservations, or exceptions in writing to the architect.  CYA, or you'll eat it all.

I have a project at a Douglas Orr building, 1930’s.  There is an area outside the lower dining room and bar that was originally a logia, but in the 70’s the arches were filled in to make it an interior space.  We just removed the carpet to find a slate patio made up with some slabs six by four feet.  They are grouted, and the surface fairly uneven.  The design calls for replacement of the wall to wall carpet with carpet tiles.  Some of the slates are scaling, but we have removed most of the loose material. Question:  what sort of underlayment would you use for the carpet?  We have looked at the Schluter system, Ardex with fiberglass mesh and DSP 520.  The costs are significantly different, and if you read the fine print, even the Schluter system will not warrantee.

Thoughts?

Best,

Leland

I m so tired don't know what to do
just been leaning on my shovel all day
just three little letters makes it OK
WPA

Louis Armstrong; Jack Tiergarten 1937 "WPA"

One of the great park systems  of the WPA was the Blue ridge skyway  and the   creation of the Appellation trail system
-the stone and trail and causeway work is phenomenal
so=2 0was the cabin and early toilet facilities
I mention this because the WPA went into the impoverished communities of the deep south and put in precast commodes in the almost all the out houses  or more exactly concrete two holers .and ourdoor waste systems for schools

the  second great park system was the Natchez trace ( from Natchez to Nashville) I am told if you are a bicycle rider this is a must  ride ......plus it goes near by my school house altier (also WPA )
my school house has poured in place hallways; red oak floors; heavy plaster walls and the big 24 glass pane windows  for 7 class rooms with an auditorium for 100 kids  They choose the site because it has  excellent well water and it was thought Polio came from bad water
; most of the post offices in the South are WPA...
many with murals by WPA artists
I am not sure but surely parts of Colonial Williamsburg maybe the WPA and so may be New York's West Side Highway
I remember a lot of the catskills Park and reservoir system was WPA. And was not Dewey's, NY State throughway also WPA..
as for quality of work the park systems and thier rustic stonework speak for themselves .Py
