That sounds familiar but I thought I remember one that was taking off and
just fell off the runway.also wintertime.

Wasn't one of those where the cockpit snapped off the plane, into the water?

For several years, I've had a vague recollection of US Air having one rough
year in the 1980's where planes kept falling off the runway into Flushing
Bay. May have only happened once and my memory is exaggerating. Anyone
remember this?

I don't see any floating seat cushions. Hmmm...

A close associate of ours, John Harry, also had a recent air transportation
mishap. Nose wheel failed to deploy while trying to land at Philadelphia
International. Fuel dumped, runway foamed, all survived.

Common thread: U S Airways

Makes you think twice about flying bankrupt airlines. I stopped flying
United several years ago during their great bankruptcy period. I had 5
flights in a row cancelled for mechanical problems.
