Possibly, but it might cause some issues because of the meter's sensitivity. 
You can  tune for max output, but that could result in driving the tubes a bit 
too hard.  There are voltage-controlled audio oscillators that one can build 
relatively inexpensively to hook across the meter to give you a direct meter 
read.

I had a thought. a rare event I know but there it is.
earlier, someone made the comment about puttins a piezi buzzer across
the lead light on an atu.
could I not put a similar device across the meter on my old yaesu?
yes there are other solutions out there but I haven't the funding for
such a venture.
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
