Anna, Windows takes its clue from the BIOS,not the other way around. My experience is that if you don't enable power management in the BIOS, Windows can't follow up with its settings. It may well be that your particular machine has this option, however what you may remember is the settings for plug and play. You can choose for the BIOS to detect your hardware or let Windows do it,provided you have a plug & play OS. At least this is what I encountered on several motherboards.
