Hi Diane, Actually, Windows Media Player can plays DVD's. HOWEVER, what you need to make this work is a DVD decoder, and by and large these are not free because the license to the DVD patent holders costs any developer of DVD decoders money. You most likely got a disk included with your system if it has a DVD drive installed, or one came with a DVD drive if you installed such a drive in your system. This should contain the DVD decoder. Failing that, I did find one player that claims to play DVD's without a decoder, however I have not tried it. YMMV. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ Russ Poffenberger [log in to unmask] At 09:14 AM 1/4/2007, Diane Kroeckel wrote: >Dear Listers, > >I'm looking for a free downloadable program that can play DVD's either >bought, rented or made. > >I'm using XP Pro sp2. > >Thanks. > >Diane Kroeckel The NOSPIN Group has added a new feature on our website, web based bulletinboard for questions and answers: Visit our sister website at http://nospin.com
