Hi Diane,

Actually, Windows Media Player can plays DVD's. HOWEVER, what you need to 
make this work is a DVD decoder, and by and large these are not free 
because the license to the DVD patent holders costs any developer of DVD 
decoders money.

You most likely got a disk included with your system if it has a DVD drive 
installed, or one came with a DVD drive if you installed such a drive in 
your system. This should contain the DVD decoder.

Failing that, I did find one player that claims to play DVD's without a 
decoder, however I have not tried it. YMMV.
