Message-Id: <[log in to unmask]> HI folks, DOn't know who was asking about the 2720, but we had one in the radio room at University hospital. THe 2720 is difficult to access, and ours acted squirrelly. FOr some reason ours decided without any intervention from any human anywhere to start demanding a ctcss tone on receive when we only had one set up for tx. IT operated flawlessly through the hurricane and its aftermath. My xyl was trying to help me with something on that radio and with herbig hands ended up punching about every stupid button on that control head when trying to reorient it one day. NEver did get it totally set back to rights. Had her scouring the manual for the great microprocessor reset control so we could start over from square one but never did find it. From her reading the manual to me I can tell you the manual is not well written and finding information you need in it is therefore a pain. PErformance wise the 2720 had a decent receiver and delivered clean audio to the transmitter, but I didn't really like the rig from a user interface standpoint. Exeternal speakers improve the audio by leaps and bounds, the internal speaker sucks swamp water btw. tWo of those radio shack mobile communication speakers, the old ones not the new ones did the trick there. IF this is for an eoc or something similar you're better off with another brand. SOmething like the v7a would be a more versatile choice imnsho. ON the subject or lemons I've got a Kenwood tm-261a in my van which resembles that too. Btw our 746 at the hospital decided to eat its transmit final power amplifier when there were but two days on the warranty. THat's one reason I took my old antique Icom 740 to the hospital with us when we deployed for the storm. Also had my old trusty rusty mfj ant tuner. Liked the 746 pro even without speech, but wasn't fond of the 2720 at all. Icom gets an F for usability on that rig from this operator. 73 de nf5b geratol 2472 Richard WEbb, Electric SPider Productions, Eads Tennessee Amazing how much tape is on a 10" reel when it's not.
