Try running DXDIAG.EXE from Microsoft for verifying DirectX operation. I have it from an earlier issue of DirectX. When I had problems with an advanced game, I ran DXDIAG.EXE to find if there was any trouble with the DirectX. After running it, the problem somehow vanished and the game ran good. I suspect that the program not only finds any issues but also corrects them. You might give it a try and see if it helps. If you don't have DXDIAG.EXE or can't get the program directly, email me outside of the forum and I'll email you a copy.
