Dear Everyone: Today, July 26th, marks the 15th anniversary of the passage of one of the major accessibility-related U.S. civil rights laws: The A.D.A., the legislation that established People-First language as the LEGALLY recognized standard for U.S. terminology describing people with accessibility needs. Being considered "people" and "people-first" is significant: the status entitles us to civil=people rights. Although we still have a long road to travel to achieve those civil rights, thanks to the great advocates on the lists to which this message is being sent, we are on our way. Congratulations on your latest library-related achievement: ALA Council's unanimous passage of the resolution endorsing the establishment of a U.S. National [capital-D] Deaf History Month. --------------------- Ellen Perlow [log in to unmask] --------------------------- Check out EASI New Synchronous Clinics: http://easi.cc/clinic.htm EASI Home Page http://www.rit.edu/~easi Online courses and Clinics http://easi.cc/workshop.htm Check the EASI Library Web http://www.rit.edu/~easi/lib.htm >>> Error in line 8 of AXSLIB-L.MAILTPL: unknown formatting command <<< -> . . . . . . . . . <-
