I agree - for the most part. However, the authors have a legitimate point
in that running *could* have been the driving force. It's possible that the
earliest "modern humans" had to run a whole bunch just to survive. But, as
the species progressed, the requirement to run was reduced because of
improved hunting tools along with the domestication of dogs.

100,000 years ago distance running could have been a daily event; 50,000
years ago not nearly as much; and 10,000 years ago not much at all.
Something like that.
