Hi Gary--
I'm sorry I can't help with the 'other side' of the settings issue. I think I'd have to know a lot more of the computer's "history" (though at my school, I have seen a number of "strange occurrences, they have usually been a result of either kids 'messing around', or teachers unburdened with a clue). As for anti-Trojan, I've been doing what a number of the list folk have recommended for some time and have remained Trojan-free. I use Spywareblaster v. 3.2 and update it at least once per week. This app helps prevent 'drive-by' installation of bots and Trojans in the first place. It also integrates well with Spybot Search & Destroy--the Immunization screen actually 'sees' it if it is installed and links to it. I update this once per week as well, and usually run it once per week. Finally, I use Avast Antivirus, which automatically updates itself. I practice pretty "safe computing", don't receive HTML e-mail (as a rule), and routinely scan all attachments (regardless of source--e-mail address spoofing is routine, now) before opening them. My computer is the gateway for my cable internet connection, and there are two other computers in my peer-to-peer home network.
HTH,
Paul A. Shippert
