Hi Jerry: Yes, the TS-2000 does use a relay for CW keying, but it is very fast. I am not a high speed CW operator, so whether it is fast enough for you, I can't say. I hear things between characters but I do not have mine set up for real high speed. The book talks of many changes that can be made for best CW operation. I hope that helps you a little.
