Luke, I am with you. I have the Stone Mountain Engineering "qsy'er" which worked for Kenwood's. They also made a versions for Yaesu and some older Icoms. Fortunately if you were able to find one of them you could plug and play with the Ts-690. Some Kenwood's had to have either a IF-10b or IF-10c installed but the Ts-450 and Ts-690's didn't have to have it. Now the Ts-570's and Ts-2000's have to have a IC chip installed that simply inverts the data stream and you set the radio computer speed at 4800 and it will work fine. I am trying to remember on the Ts-870's but I think the keypad needed the inverted data and you had a couple of menus that had to be set up. The Stone Mountain would then change mode and frequency and looked like a touch tone pad with the pound key being enter and the star key being "point". I am very lucky to have a couple of these and yes, I use them regularly! Probably more than you wanted to know but there it is... 73 de Brian, k5in ----- Original Message ----- From: "Louis Kim Kline" <[log in to unmask]> To: <[log in to unmask]> Sent: Saturday, July 17, 2004 9:15 PM Subject: Re: auditory read-outs Hi John. Different strokes for different folks. I find the external keypads much easier and convenient to use. I have a keypad on the front of my Kenwood TS-690S, but it isn't half as convenient as the Millenium QSYer on my Icom IC-706 MKII G. If someone made a version of the QSYer for the TS-690S, I'd buy it in an instant. 73, de Lou K2LKK At 11:50 PM 7/17/2004 -0400, you wrote: >Most radios have the keypad on the front for direct frequency, all but the >little mobile types, IC-706 radios, personally I'd much rather have the >keypad on the radio, and most have that. >----- Original Message ----- >From: "Louis Kim Kline" <[log in to unmask]> >To: <[log in to unmask]> >Sent: Saturday, July 17, 2004 11:17 PM >Subject: Re: auditory read-outs > > > > Hi Jerry. > > > > Well, I'm the wrong person to ask about variable pitch metering, but I can > > tell you that there are a variety of rigs out there with synthetic speech > > readouts, and judging from the comments on the list, the Kenwood TS2000 >and > > the Kenwood TS480 are among the best out there.
