What has what you want got to do with
anything?
Ruins are not significant in our context. They are signs
of failure. We have little tolerance for failure. Certainly, not
enough to expend our limited preservation resources on. But since
Europeans think failure and ruin is wonderful, lets start shipping
them some. We can start with Enron.

ArialI don't want a
"restored", "accurate" Colosseum, although that would be interesting.
I want a Colosseum with weed trees growing up between the ruined
foundations; I want a Wells Cathedral where the winding steps are
dished out by centuries of pilgrims; I want a Paestum where the
limestone is flaking away, one grain at a time.
