        ...outside the Dalton School, an elegant, chaste design of 1927 by Richard H. Dana, abused to a near-death condition by a bunch of ignorant slobs.   Schools and hospitals are, generally, the enemies of architecture.
         
        The noise?  The truck?  It was making a delivery to the cafeteria, running its compressor - it was a refrigerator truck, keeping the food chilled.
