Being an olive oil lover, I generally buy an Italian, ulfiltered brand.
It's very mild and nutty tasting. The store I buy it in had a display with
a new Spanish olive oil called Dauro de L'amporda. The store manager said
it's the best tasting olive oil he's ever had. I paid a king's ransom for
it and just opened it. It has a SUPER STRONG grassy smell. I've never had
olive oil that smells like this -- the only way to describe it is grassy --
almost like wheatgrass. Does this mean the oil is rancid or am I just not
used to this type of oil??? It tastes ok but way different than every other
olive oil I've ever tasted. This oil has an expiration date of December
2004 on it and the bottle is a very dark green, almost black -- so I don't
see how it could have oxidized. Any help from any olive oil connoisseurs
out there would be most appreciated.
