If today's youth is the hope for tomorrow, then the Netherlands may be screwed. According to a new study by the COC, a gay rights lobby in Amsterdam, gay bashing and homophobia are on the rise. The Dutch government feels that a growing population of Muslims is a fault, although the COC thinks the problem is more widespread. The government and the COC are putting out a brochure on how to deal with the discrimination as well as starting a program to bring the issue out of the closet. Of late, incidents of homophobic slurs and violence toward gay students and teachers has increased. "Many schools leave homosexual, bisexual, and lesbian students and staff to fend for themselves," the report stated. "Bullying, name-calling, discrimination and even physical violence occur regularly in schools." The COC spoke to some 500 teachers and students, many of whom complained about the mental and physical abuse they've endured.
