I need to replace the teak rubrails for my deteriorating 10' dory.  The rails will be 3x4" X 1" or so, through-fastened to the (vintage!) fiberglass.

You can't read even half an issue of Wooden Boat without some digression about how you have to boil or steam teak stock to get it to adopt the desired curve.  But the teak stock I intend to use bends adequately (if not freely) to the desired radius.

So I know I can install the teak without steaming.  But if I don't steam it, is it more likely to break, or snap off and do something nasty like smack Heidi on the backside as I serve as the chase boat for her Toledo-to-Silver Bay swim?

And, if I do have to steam it, where do I find a 10' long teakettle?
