I concur with the below comments from Gary. Additionally, I've set up PC's for other people using Win XP with 256MB of Ram, and have not noticed deterioration in browser performance such as that mentioned by Lou. I would suspect there might be other processes running in the background which might affect this. Certainly, I have noticed deteriorated performance when running other processes in the background, i.e. OCR, audio editing, etc. But, this has not been screen-reader specific. One thing I have noticed, is there are times when JFW will not read highlighted text under Win XP. The work-around, as noted on the JFW tech support site, is to unload and re-load jaws. It has to do with the order in which JFW starts under the services section. Lou, All I can figure is that you have some other issues going on if you have or had problems with jaws 4.50. I'm on a similar machine here with the xp1800 and 512 Mg of ram and had little trouble. Certainly not anything like you described. I just tried that web site with both jaws 4.50 and 4.51 and no problem. Gary Talking power/SWR meter coming soon for the ham operators out there. Call or write for more information. Hi Jeffrey. A few questions, if I may. Are you using Windows XP Home by any chance, and how much memory are you using and how fast is your processor? My findings with Windows XP Home is that 512 MB of RAM is MINIMUM for JAWS on the internet, and more RAM would be better. With a 1.7 GHz Athelon processor and 512 MB of RAM running Internet Explorer 6, the performance on my machine is marginal. JFW 4.50 was much worse with this setup--almost unusable. In fact, I rolled back to JFW 4.02 until Freedom Scientific rolled out JFW 4.51. If you have a notebook with 512 MB of RAM or less, and a slower processor, then what you are describing would not surprise me on a page with a large amount of material on it. 73, de Lou K2LKK At 06:19 AM 6/23/2003 -0400, you wrote: >Good morning Steve and the group.
