I assume you mean wireless internet connections.  Generally,
the distance capable is about 500 feet, so even if your
hotels/motels have wireless, it's not going to help to
connect you where a wire wouldn't work, except maybe around
the hotel pool or patio.  But a little more convenient than
wire.
Radio Shack has a credit card modem that would attach to a
cell phone to allow a dial up connection for a laptop for
around $100.  That would give you access as long as the cell
phone works.  I could use up some of my night and weekend
minutes with this!
