This topic has come up in the past. If you do a search of the PCBUILD
archives and do a search for "Dallas" in the text field (not in subject
line), you will get a number of hits under subject lines including clock,
time, battery, etc.. If you discard the posts from people from Texas, you
will get info on replacing the Dallas batteries. Apparently, they run
$15-$20 and are either soldered or socketed, but they do seem to be
replaceable.

Good luck.

> Thanks for your reply Dean; from what I gather, I've got a so called
Dallas battery in this old computer and can't do anything with that. It
looks as if I've got to get myself a new motherboard.
> This computer has OS 95 on it and it had part of 98 installed on it, but
it kept freezing and wouldn't restart. Tried to re-install 95 but it came up
with error cmos battery low.
> I was hoping to fix this for my kids, but have to resort to something else
now.
> Again, thanks for your help; greatly appreciated.
