Hi there, paleo-pals - I just read Jim's great post (from about two weeks ago), Fasting and the Ketogenic Kickstart, and I'm thinking of trying a fast myself. I've never fasted before, though, and I'm feeling a little cautious, wondering what side effects I might experience. I've been eating paleo for close to 10 months now, lost 40 pounds pretty quickly when I started but I seem to have been stuck at around 145-150 for the last six months or so. I think I'd look and feel a lot better at around 130-135 (I'm 5'9, 34), so I'm thinking of trying a fast followed by really low carb paleo (cutting out the fruit & nuts & honey entirely, just meat & fish & vegetables, I guess) to see if that gets me losing weight again. Those of you who've fasted, what kind of side effects did you experience? Were you moody? Crabby? Tired? Light-headed? (I ask because that's how I recall feeling before when I went more than a few hours without eating. Generally, I graze all day. And I'm mid-way through my first year of law school, so if I was going to be extremely bitchy, incoherent, or incapable of paying attention for a few days while I fasted, I might decide to put it off until summer break.) I'd love to hear any comments about what I ought to expect, if I do try fasting. Would you recommend fasting for the full 2-3 days, or just until I start losing weight? Thanks in advance for all your input & advice! Kathy Schwinghammer [log in to unmask] P.S. I am the one who posted a while back about the foot/leg pain that was keeping me from running. I never did find a paleo doctor here in Austin, so I ended up going to a sports medicine specialist (she diagnosed it as an injury to a tendon in the ball of my foot and a stress fracture in my fibula from limping on the hurt foot for a month -- since then I've been staying off it and doing stretches for the foot, and it's improved a lot, it's nearly better). When I mentioned my diet she just shrugged and said "Hmm, well, that sounds healthy, good for you." Thanks for all of your helpful advice!
