George, I agree with you that whether there is something for us to celebrate in the present scheme of things is anybody's guess, however I must also add that it is indeed a subjective viewpoint and you my forever good friend could not have echoed your sentiments and OPINION any better. I would therefore let Musa Jeng and other members of both G-l and G-Post give their opinions on that, but my focus as a member of AGERA is to address the details of this collaboration between UGOA and AGERA. You see George, on February 2, 2003 I posted an announcement addressed to both Gambia-L and Gambia Post titled " ATLANTA GAMBIA EMERGENCY FUND - FUNDRAISING PARTY AND SYMPOSIUM" and indicated that topics of the symposium will follow as Musa Jeng was to be contacted for more information. Since you have admitted that " You happen to reside right here in Atlanta and that as pathetic as this may sound YOU honestly do NOT know much about the "Atlanta Gambian community", Please allow me to shed some light to better inform other fellow Atlanta Gambians who might feel the same way as you. I agree with you that using the title The Atlanta Gambian community could raise some eyebrows particularly when AGERA which is APOLITICAL is involved, but as the public relations officer of AGERA, I therefore share the information below. The Symposium and fundraising are both being sponsored by UGOA. AGERA is raising funds to address emergencies facing our community and both organizations thought that it will make more sense to try to reach the Atlanta Gambian community the same day by collaborating our efforts. AGERA's aims and objectives are clear and concise as highlighted below; 1.Build a fund for a strong and vibrant community. 2.Shall organize different fund raising activities. 3.To be proactively responsive to emergencies affecting our community. 4.To be responsive to extra ordinary circumstances affecting our community, i.e., calamities that threaten the stability of our community. 5.To work closely and support Gambian initiatives within the community for the economic, social and cultural development of our community. 6.To promote investments in our community and in the Gambia as well. Maybe UGOA can make available their aims and objectives to answer some of the questions you have asked, but just in case I get a "return to sender" with the mail I have sent to your address we have on file, please see the programs schedule below and hope to see you this saturday.
