As noted elsewhere, I have converted from AOL to MSN as an interim step to going broadband. Part of the reasoning was that I am installing a new hard drive and I didn't want AOL mucking up all my settings. As such, I will cease using AOL prior to installing/using my new hard drive.

The question is whether AIM has some of the same pitfalls. Because my son wants to do instant messaging, not sure what my options are. Can I install AIM without fouling my new hard drive?

Are any other options available?
