-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 A colleague of mine has an HP printer (set as default) connected via passthru to a scanner. Since installing a NIC (he recently got verizon dsl service; PPPoE), he lost the ability to print or scan. He syas dDvice Manager shows no conflicts. The HP soft diagnostics shows communication with printer, however does not print any docs (even when bypassing scanner by connecting directly to PC printer port). He tried a re-install of the printer and attendant software. At end of installation, when prompted to print a test page, his system went black/dead. Upon reboot, HD is not detected. He states that HD give no indications of imminent failure (no weird sounds, activity, etc). I had him check drive for loose cabling, all good. Would a failing HD have caused initial print problems? And if so, how? During his t'shooting phase, he did not try removing the NIC to see if that was cause of print problem; nor did he try another print cable. Anyone has any ideas as to what may have happened? The system in question is a beige box amd 800 that I'll be replacing the HD on today or tomorrow.
