Hello everyone! I'm trying to install windows xp pro on a compaq presario exms on at pc here at work. The pc is @ 1year old and although it isn't a fireball it isn't a slow pc either and should squeak under the minimum requirements. It has p3 667mhz cpu, 64mb ram, 9gb hd, 4mb svga video card, etc. I originally had it setup so that it was dual booting win2k and win98, this worked fine. I got a copy of winxp pro so I decided to try it out. The installation process works fine, looks like it jumps through all the necessary hoops, ie. network config, joining the existing nt domain, etc. The install time takes @ 1 hour, when it finally reboots, I see the winxp splash screen which shows me that the installation was successful, looks like it's booting up and then the displays blacks out and nothing. I reboot several times and nothing changes, same response, winxp splash screen and then blacks out. It's not a monitor problem because I hooked it up to another pc and it works fine. I can see hd activity when I hit random keys, the esc key, etc. but no display. I have run the install process 3 times from scratch, each time formatting the hd using the fat32 file system. Does anyone out there think that using the ntfs file system during the next install would produce better results? Or is this possibly a situation where windows xp doesn't have the correct driver for the video card installed in this pc? Has anyone seen or experienced anything similar to this? Let me know what you think. Thanks for the advice. rob,wpg > Do you want to signoff PCBUILD or just change to Digest mode - visit our web site: http://freepctech.com/pcbuild.shtml
